Thought for the day 9th of May 2011

If my resolution to be a great man was half so strong as it is to despise the shame of being a little one…” by William Cowper.

I am convinced that everybody has strong resolutions. Even the person who says that he is never too categorical about anything has a pretty strong resolution and would not give up it at any cost. However, our strength of opinion is often concentrated in the wrong direction. We have very powerful resolutions about negative aspects. We concentrate on what we don’t have, how little we have, how weak we are and how little we can achieve with what we have.

This kind of approach takes away power from us to go anywhere. I believe we would need half as little strength for the positive than we do need for the negative. Why? Because concentration on the positive adds power to you, while concentration on the negative takes the power away from you. That is why you need more power to stay negative than to stay positive. Unfortunately, most people chose the path where they waste their energy by sticking to the negative. That’s why they are so weak. Had they changed the focus of their resolution, they would become great men and women.
