Thought for the day 5th of May 2011

When you feel dog tired at night, it maybe because you’ve growled all day long” by unknown author.

It is very easy to find rest from physical tiredness. You sleep longer during a weekend, go outdoors, and maybe have a little bit of entertainment by playing some game. And you are strong and rested again. It is a little bit more complicated when your soul gets tired. Most people don’t know what to do then. There are very many reasons why soul can get tired in the first place. And there are also a lot of ways how it can find rest.

If you are always unhappy, complain and are irritated your soul will always be tired. Negative emotions weary your soul. Attitude of complaining and finding faults weary your soul too. How do you get rid of those and find rest? First, you need to go somewhere where you can be alone and calm down. Then, you have to meditate on the bright side of life and thank God for all good that He has done to you. Focus on the good. Evil will always weary you and you will always be tired if you look at it and concentrate on it. Shift your focus. There is a lot of good in this life. Dwell on it, meditate on it, experience it, speak about it and… you will find rest for your soul.

You don’t have to be in chains because you have a key to your freedom

Thought for the day 4th of May 2011

“So often time it happens, we all live our lives in chains, and we never even know we have the key” by group ‘The Eagles’ “Already Gone”.

I could not agree more. Whatever the writer and performers meant, the sentence is absolutely true. We get into our addictions and other kinds of chains by our very own thoughts, desires and attitudes and the key to break these chains is the same – through change of our thoughts, desires and attitudes. If you looked at the problem of addictions you will always find this thing: “I like it”. That is the biggest problem of anyone who is bound by some pleasures of this world.

Another side of the coin is that a person is torturing himself with those types of pleasures. As we know that there can be no empty space in any sphere of life for a long time, we cannot just break the chains and not get something instead. We have to find other type of desires that would lead us to the fulfillment of our callings and would not bound us or get us addicted. So, if you want to get rid of some sensual pleasures, think of something you would want to commit yourself to, which would replace those pleasures. This would be your first step to freedom.

Think big thoughts and relish small pleasures

Thought for the day 3rd of May 2011

Think big thoughts but relish small pleasures” by H. Jackson Brown Jr.

I am convinced that we should learn how to think big. Thinking big makes you a rich personality with a big vision. It enables you to think more than just about your daily routine. It inspires you for greater achievements in life. Think big and you will create great things. Think small and you will achieve nothing beyond average. You have to dare to do it. Spend some time each day allowing your mind to dwell on those great things you want to accomplish in your life. This will start attracting them into your life and give you ideas how to achieve them.

On the other had thinking big does not mean relishing big pleasures. Big thoughts and big pleasures should not go hand in hand. They can, but they usually are enemies rather than friends. Big pleasures take away a lot of time from you and devour your creative energy that should be used for doing something that would take you to your dreams. Pleasures also result in laziness and absence of concentration. You should have in mind that by saying pleasure I mean sensual pleasures that can easily get you addicted. Well, anything can get you addicted and small pleasures (those that do not consume a lot of your time) are ok, but don’t let any pleasure to become an idol that you worship. So, think big thoughts, but relish small pleasures.

It is very important how you start your day

Thought for the day 2nd of May 2011

“Swallow a toad in the morning and you will encounter nothing more disgusting the rest of the day” by Nicholas Chamfort.

It is very important how you start the day, because you set a tone for your whole day in the morning. There is usually inertia in anything we do and once we started going a certain direction it becomes difficult to stop and change the course. Of course, it is possible, but it is better to prepare for each day in the morning. This world wants you to get into irritable, complain type mood every day. It is full of this kind of attitudes. Morning is the time when most people catch their moods for the rest of the day.

They get irritated for countless of reasons. They overslept alarm clock, could not find the clothes, breakfast was bad, neighbor did not greet them, there was a traffic jam, boss said something unpleasant when they arrived and the list could go on and on. But I have good news for you. You don’t have to react in this way. With the help of your attitude you can stay in a positive frame of mind.

Start the day from gratitude for what you have, for the good things that have happened in your life. If those negative things happen try to see how you could benefit from that. In this way you will stay in control of your emotions, feelings, mood and your actions. Outside circumstances should not dictate you how to feel, speak and behave. You are in charge of your actions. If you start the day that way, you will ‘switch yourself on a positive wave’ and positive things will keep coming through the rest of your day. So, don’t swallow those toads in the morning for they are going to spoil the rest of your day. Have some sugar instead.

Expect good things in life

Thought for the day 1st of May 2011

“Blessed is he who expects nothing, for he shall never be disappointed” by (Benjamin Franklin and Jonathan Swift).

I do not know the full context in which the words were used, but I do not think this is the attitude you should adopt in your life. I know that people are afraid and do not want to be disappointed. You can evade this by not expecting anything. However, how can you stimulate yourself if you do not expect anything? If you don’t expect anything you will hardly have inspiration, which is a must if you want to achieve something

There are a lot of disappointments in life. So what? They come and they go. You learn something from your failures and go on further. You should be afraid to waste your life and not to get disappointed or fail. These things are part of learning process. Only those never get disappointed who don't do anything. They get pretty big disappointment at the end of their lives though. If there is expectation there will definitely be a disappointment, because we do fail. But on the other hand, when you succeed and your expectations are more than met you experience a tremendous feeling of satisfaction. Don’t be afraid to fail, for everyone who seeks, finally finds. So, seek, expect and go in the direction of your expectations.
